Getting There

This walk was organised and led by me as an irregular CBC Tuesday walk:

Tuesday morning 25 September - Border Markers W of Angle Crossing - S/M,WptX. This is an embarrassingly short walk, but it has to be done. Walk to McCormack trig from Smiths Road for the view. Return E along the border to Angle Crossing. Ford the Murrumbidgee River if able. Around 7km and 250m climb. Map: Williamsdale. Leader: John Evans - john@johnevans.id.au, 0417 436 877. Transport: ~$5 per person.

4 of us met in town and drove via Tharwa and Smiths Rd.

Further Information

I need to be back for the evening session.

Walk - Track Notes

The aim, for me, of this midget wander was to walk the ACT border from G26 in the W near the end of the Clear Range to D26 in the E, just by the Murrumbidgee River, and, if possible, cross at Angle Crossing to check for D26 and B26.

We set of from Smiths Rd at 8.15am and visited G26 (a fine example of a bolt cemented in hole drilled in rock), could not find H26, visited 75 Mile and I26, then a few metres on to McCormack Trig. Here morning tea #1 was called, at 10 minutes to 9am. I'm becoming soft.

But lovely views from this rolling, open part of the N end of the Clear Range and we spent quite some time gazing at the hills and mountains in the distance.

At last back to the real business of the day and we tootled back down to the car. Walking E (on leasehold property? - I'm not sure. I had a permission note from the Director of ACT Forests in my phone to walk on the Ingledene Forest area) we crossed the boggy Reedy Creek and searched for F26 and 74 Mile, but no luck. Further E, we did find E26, a post.

Started to head down the severe slope to the Murrumbidgee, just when it got too hard I looked at the map and decided that a more circuitous route to the bottom would help. This we took. Lead scout Peter battled a way though a very dense patch of scrub and blackberries and we were out on the bank. A search for D26 revealed nothing.

Back to Angle Crossing and we waded across. Morning tea #2 and a wander around. I could not find C26 or B26.

Waded back and returned to the car via Angle Crossing Road.

Thanks Rene D and Peter C and Linda G. Some effort for one new border marker, but a cracker of a Spring day.

Distance: 10.2km Climb: 400m. Time: 8.15am - 12noon, with 40mins of breaks.
Grading: M/M,ptXW; M(8)
